2011 NSW Minerals Council Conference - 'Changing Times, Take the Lead'
ecobiological will be attending the 2011 Environment and Community Conference - 'Changing Times, Take the Lead' held 23-25 October in Wollongong, NSW as both a conference delegate and trade exhibitor.
We look forward to catching up with many of our clients at the conference and to speak a range of industry professionals about what ecobiological's highly skilled team has to offer in the area of on-ground mining rehabilitation and monitoring.

Bush Regeneration Service Area
ecobiological can offer our clients a range of on-ground services utilising our Bush Regeneration team through our Lake Macquarie office.
The unique combination of experienced and passionate team members with Bush Regeneration and Environmental Science (Botany and Zoology) qualifications enables us to develop and implement practical and effective environmental solutions for our many clients in the mining, extraction, energy, resource and property development industries.
The bush regeneration expertise allows us to deliver on-ground works recommended to our clients in Ecological Assessments, Vegetation Management Plans and Weed Management Plans or as part of Conditions of Consent. We can offer preparation and, most importantly, on-ground implementation of:
- Weed Management Plans (including small to large-scale weed control and monitoring)
- Vegetation Management Plans (including brushmatting, seed collection, site rehabilitation with provenant native species, restoration of Threatened Ecological Communities, nestbox installation and ongoing monitoring)
- Riparian and Wetland Management Plans (erosion control, replanting with appropriate species and weed control using environmentally sensitive techniques)
We are also experienced Project Ecologists with the ability to supervise clearing operations, provide advice and direction on soil stockpiling, establishing 'no go' zones, managing sub-contractors and developing and implementing restoration plans after mine closure.
Specialist herpetofauna expertise
Between the 7th and the 18th of June, David Paull, ecobiological’s consulting herpetologist and mammalogist, undertook a biodiversity survey on Queensland’s Gulf coast which targeted sub-coastal wetlands.
The work was undertaken on Aboriginal land and in conjunction with the local traditional owners and rangers as part of federally-funded wetland management project.
This part of Queensland has had little prior biodiversity assessment, and the information gained will form part of a valuable baseline of data for the local community so that further monitoring can occur.
16 species of frogs and 24 species of reptiles were identified, including several significant range extensions for some species and one skink still awaiting specific clarification in the Queensland Museum. A coral snake, Antairoserpens warro had not been detected in the gulf country for over 20 years. In addition, surveying was undertaken for mammals, one species caught, the Long-tailed Planigale weighing only 4 grams, is the smallest marsupial in Australia.
David has 20 years of field experience with the survey of frogs, reptiles and mammals in Queensland and New South Wales, with particular emphasis in the drier western regions of these states and the north/central coastal areas of New South Wales. Current research and publishing interests include the ecology of a threatened rodent, the Pilliga Mouse, the physiology of the Common Dunnart and the ecological requirements of reptiles and hollow using mammals on the north-west slopes of New South Wales.
Kristy Peters attends ABS Conference
Our Senior Ecologist, Kristy Peters recently attended the 14th Australasian Bat Society Conference in Darwin from 12 - 14 July.
The conference featured speakers covering a range of topics relating to bat ecology, biology, genetics, survey techniques and conservation. ecobiological encourages and supports its people to regularly attend relevant scientific seminars, conferences and field trips to contribute to their ongoing professional development. Kristy is experienced in a range of bat surveying techniques such as harp trapping, spotlighting and echolocation call recording and analysis using the Anabat system.
