Mining and Extraction Industry

Donaldson Coal open cut coalmine, Beresfield


Since 2001 ecobiological has been engaged by Donaldson Coal Pty Ltd to assist the company meet the environmental obligations of their mining lease. This work includes:

  • Fauna and floristic monitoring in nine quadrats in the bushland conservation area managed by the mine
  • Pre-clearing surveys proceeding any mine extension
  • Management and monitoring of Tethratheca juncea (listed as vulnerable in Schedule 2 of the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995) which is found growing in scattered patches across the site
  • Relocation (where necessary) of Tethratheca juncea
  • Design and implementation of a fauna nestbox program

Unimin Australia Ltd sand extraction project, Tanilba Northern Dune


ecobiological were contracted by Unimin Australia Ltd in 2004 to design and implement a vegetation rehabilitation program following sand extraction activities at Tanilba Bay.


Ongoing bi-annual monitoring and reporting is conducted by ecobiological as part of the mine's Conditions of Consent. The desired outcome for the vegetation rehabilitation of the areas where sand extraction has been completed is to achieve a vegetative structure and content similar to that which was present prior to disturbance.

ecobiological has been contracted by Newcastle Coal Company Pty Ltd since 2003 to prepare and implement the mine's Flora and Fauna Management and Monitoring programs.


We have also provided advice on the establishment of a Compensatory Habitat area and consequently completed the baseline flora and fauna report and design of an ongoing monitoring program for this area.
